Argyle Band Directors

Kathy Johnson...

is the director of Argyle Bands, responsible for the overall band program for the Middle School and the High School. Before coming to Argyle, Ms. Johnson directed bands at McKamy Middle School in Flower Mound, Texas. Her responsibilities at McKamy Middle School included directing the Honor Winds, assisting with the Symphonic Band, and teaching the beginner flute, double reeds, and clarinet classes. Ms. Johnson also served as Fine Arts Department Head at McKamy. The bands under Ms. Johnson’s direction have consistently earned Superior ratings at the University Interscholastic League Concert and Sightreading Contest and earned Superior Ratings and “Best in Class” Awards at the various festivals they have attended . Ms. Johnson had had the distinct honor of conducting the McKamy Honor Winds at the Texas Music Educators Conference as the 2001 Class CC Honor Band and most recently in Chicago at the 2001 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Conference.

Ms. Johnson has played flute in the Dallas Wind Symphony for the past 18 years and also performs with the Camerata Chamber Winds. She is an active clinician and adjudicator in the metroplex area and teaches at several summer band camps throughout the state of Texas. She has also served as Region V Band Chairman.

Ms. Johnson attended The University of North Texas, where she received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education. While there, she studied flute under Dr. George Morey and Dr. Mary Karen Clardy.

Prior to teaching at McKamy Middle School, Ms. Johnson was the associate director at Arbor Creek Middle School Band and the Head Director at Griffin Middle School. Under her direction, the Griffin Symphonic Band advanced to the State Honor Band finals and placed 5th and 4th respectively in both 1986 and 1988.

Ms. Johnson resides in Flower Mound with husband Eric and children, Matthew and Adam.
