Argyle Band Directors

Mr. Ray Hilley...

is in his fifth year of teaching and his first as the Director of Bands for Argyle Middle School. His responsibilities include over-seeing the middle school band program, teaching the Red Band, beginning horn, beginning trumpet, beginning trombone, and beginning low brass. Mr. Hilley will also be assisting the White band and the high school marching band. Prior to Argyle, Mr. Hilley taught for two years in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD at Cross Timbers Middle School. His responsibilities include teaching the Symphonic and Concert bands, teaching the 8th grade and After-School jazz bands, and also teaching beginner low brass and saxophone. While at CTMS, Mr. Hilley’s bands received superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sight-reading, and his Jazz Band’s were named Best in Class at the TCU Jazz festival and Sandy Lake Band Contests. Mr. Hilley began his teaching career in the Richardson ISD at Lake Highlands High School and Forest Meadow Jr. High. While in Richardson, Mr. Hilley taught beginning band classes at the elementary schools, assisted at both Lake Highlands HS and Forest Meadow Jr. High, and taught the LHHS Jazz II band.

Mr. Hilley is a 2002 graduate of Sam Houston State University. While as Sam Houston State, he studied euphonium with Dr. Henry Howey and Robert Daniel. He also studied conducting with Mr. Matthew McInturf and Dr. Allen Hightower. Mr. Hilly was principal euphonium of the SHSU Wind Ensemble, a member of the Bearkat Marching Band, and played piano with the SHSU Jazz Ensemble. While at SHSU, he had the honor of performing with the Wind Ensemble at the CBDNA National Convention in Colorado and again at the Regional convention in Houston. During his career, Mr. Hilley has been fortunate to study with some of Texas’ most distinguished band directors including Ms. Marion West, Mrs. Susan Scarborough, Mr. Dick Clardy and Ms. Jolette Wine.

In his free time Mr. Hilley is a season ticket holder for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. He is an avid golfer and enjoys playing his PS II and traveling.
